Irish Sea Ports Network

The Irish Sea Ports Network was founded to deepen tourism links across the Irish Sea, fostering collaborations between tourism businesses, heritage, and arts organisations.

Ports have a unique perspective; they are outward looking and closely connected to their partner ports across the sea. Without exception, port people are passionate about their area and all it has to offer.

The aims of the Irish Sea Ports Network are networking, collaboration, cross-promotion, inspiration, business growth, skill sharing, along with working together as a cross-costal community.

The network has highlighted several areas for potential growth for the Irish Sea ports. These include:

  • Slow Travel & Eco Tourism
  • Food Tourism & Festivals
  • Business to Business Tourism – Cruises & Coach Tours
  • The Arts – Tourism Shows & Festivals
  • Maritime Heritage & Diaspora
  • Regenerative Tourism

The network is currently seeking funding to develop port-based itineraries and to formalise our governance structure. You can connect with us by following us on Facebook or LinkedIn

Our Port Places App

Explore the depth of history and heritage surrounding five active ferry ports on the Irish Sea: Dublin Port, Rosslare, Holyhead, Fishguard and Pembroke Dock. This app allows the user to download their choice of curated experiences, each providing a vision of port life, creativity, history and heritage.

The material in this app comes from the members of port communities, creative practitioners, and academic researchers from a wide range of backgrounds. Port Places has been created by Ports, Past and Present, a project led by University College Cork in partnership with Aberystwyth University, the University of Wales Trinity St David and Wexford County Council examining the cultural heritage of the ports in the Irish sea basin. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme.
